Life after Christmas

One of these days I still have aspirations of finishing my pages of after Christmas, but for now - life has moved on. After migraines from looking at the screen for too long...I've definitely limited myself on the number of pages that I can do when Parker is sleeping :) One day this week while I had a migraine, I realized how much Parker has been learning. I was laying on the couch waiting for my medicine to kick in when I noticed that Parker needed a diaper change. Not thinking that he would, I asked Parker to go get a diaper. He went to his room several times and brought back a different item each time. Eventually he brought a diaper and was very excited about the fact. So, the next day, I decided to ask him again. The first try he brought me a diaper. The next step was to ask him to get the wipes. He brought them back on the first try. It is cute to see him start to understand more and more each day.

Parker is also trying to communicate more and more all of the time. The funny thing that he did this week was when we were reading a book. It was a color book with different items on each page of a certain color. We got to the green page and there were grapes on the page. He immediately started to try to grab the grapes. He really wanted them. I asked him if he wanted grapes and he said, "yes." These days he says yes for a lot of things, so I was curious if he really wanted them. Luckily, we had grapes in the house and I got them for him. When he had finished his grapes, he brought the book back to me, opened the page to the grape page and started grabbing. Apparently, he wanted more. He did this over and over again until he had finally had his fill of grapes. Pretty funny! I guess he would really be able to do well with PECS (a program for non-verbal people that I worked on with my nephew for awhile).

He really wants to communicate and is slowly trying to find ways to do so. He grabs my hand and drags me to where he wants to go and is really starting to babble. I think that going to Utah and being with his cousins really helped him to want to do new things.

Yea, I'm so excited to hear that Parker is blossoming into such a fun little boy. I know you were worried about the talking thing, but it looks as if Parker just needed the right kind of motivation. Thank goodness for cousins.

It really is fun to watch kids start to understand. I loved when I could ask James to get a diaper and wipes and he did it. It just gets better. I am glad that being around his cousins helped give him the motivation he needed to get going.
