Feeding the Horses

In my neighborhood we have cows one street over and we have horses 3 streets over. We love to go for walks to visit the cows and the horses. Sometimes, we go several times a week. We make an outing of it. The kids all get on their bikes and ride to see the horses. We take carrots and apples and let the boys feed them. We have been doing this for months now and it seems like we always have some sort of adventure.Sometimes, it is simply the fact that Parker is too tired to ride his bike. He wants to ride instead. So, we figured out how to fit Parker in Braden's stroller behind him and tow the bike.

In the winter, the adventure was the MUD! It rained a TON this winter. After several dry days, we figured that we were safe to go visit the horses. Boy were we wrong. Parker and I crossed over onto the supposed dirt to find that we were STUCK. Seriously, I could not move. My shoes sunk into the mud like quicksand. Finally, I had to take my shoes off and pull with all of my might to get them out. Then, I had to help Parker get unstuck. Parker fell over and pretty soon we were both completely COVERED in mud. Definitely an adventure...learned my lesson to make sure that it is DRY!!!
Another adventure is helping the kids feel more comfortable around the horses. We started out by throwing small carrots. Then, the boys got braver and started to feed the horses large carrots. On this day, Parker's friend held his hand and helped him to feed the horse. That did the trick. Parker felt confident and could do it. Love these two boys (notice the matching rain boots and helmets)...two peas in a pod!
