Inspiring Books about our World

I am usually the type of person to read books that are page-turners...I like the fiction and the drama that keeps me interested. However, over the past couple of months I have begun reading non-fiction books about different places in our world. They have completely changed my view on the world and made me realize how uneducated I am about the problems of the world. It is been fascinating to read the inside views and truly helped me to see so much of the heartache in the world around us. They are definitely easy reads - they take time to read and require a lot of contemplation.

Left To Tell: This is a very inspiring book about the Rwandan Holocaust. Through such a horrible time in history, it was amazing to read of this woman and her search to find God. I didn't even have any idea about the tragedy in this country. Often times, we ponder on how we could let the Holocaust happen in Hitler's time. However, tragedies like this still happen today.

Blood Brothers: This tells the inside story of the feud between Palestines and Jews in Israel. It tells of the innocent people in Israel who were friends and then destroyed by the outside world. It really made me ponder on the individuals in each of these countries. There is so much that is misunderstood!

Three Cups of Tea: This book tells of one man's work in Pakistan and later in Afghanistan. We hear so much about war and terror on the news. There are wars going on, but this man's mission brought a new light to it all. He has dedicated his life to educating children in these countries. The best way to bring peace is to help them have a better quality of life with schools, hygiene, and a chance to move out of the poverty that affects so many. We are so quick to judge, but what are we doing to help?!

While each of these books were very different, they had one similar message. We need to take the time to really learn and educate ourselves about what is happening in other countries. We need to spread the message of peace and love.
