I'm a big kid now!

We finally took the plunge and put Parker in a "big boy bed." He's been in a crib for almost three years because he never tried to climb out and there wasn't a reason to kick him before this. He definitely lasted a lot longer in a crib than most kids I know. I finally decided that it was time to make the move and was pleasantly surprised with the results. I was a little apprehensive about the transistion, but thankfully it was great and has been a fun thing for us.

Parker's crib converts into a toddler bed, so we took off the side of the bed. He was very excited about the prospect of a "big boy bed" and even begged to go to bed because he thought that this was fun. Once in the bed, he stayed put and never even tried to get out on his own. The only glitch in the whole matter is that Parker FELL out of bed several times. He moves a lot in his sleep (something that I knew from the times that he ends up in my bed). The first night, he fell out of bed 5 or 6 times. Each time, he woke up screaming. Luckily, he calmed down quickly and went back to sleep. After a few sleepless nights, he finally caught on to 2 things...

One: he could climb back in to bed himself and
Two: he doesn't seem to move as much when he sleeps.

So, all in all, the transition was a big success. Most days, when he wakes up, he will call out to us as if to ask permission to come out of bed. He usually doesn't get out until we respond...that's definitely nice. Occasionally, however, I will be woken up in the middle of the night with him standing by my bed reaching up for me and asking to cuddle. How can I resist that??? He definitely LOVES to cuddle!!!

I remember those days. For the first little while, we put a swimming noodle underneath the fitted sheet to serve as a bumper pad thing and it helped a ton. She could get in and out, but had a little barrier for when she slept. Anyway, how fun!
