Parker's Glasses (TMI!)
We took Parker into the eye doctor at the beginning of this month because we have been worried about how he focuses. It has been clear for some time that his eyes don't focus correctly. At his 2 year appointment with our pediatrician, we discussed this but she said that we could watch it for awhile. It hasn't seemed to get any better, so we finally took him in. It turns out that he has both a horizontal and vertical misalignment in his eyes. Basically, his two eyes aren't aligned so he can't see the same thing out of both eyes. At this young of an age, it basically means he only uses one eye and strains the other eye to try to equalize it.
What's the solution? Well, he now wears glasses with a +2.0 prescription (basically your typical reading glasses). This helps to relax his eyes so that he isn't straining so much. We also have to put patches on each of his eyes for about 30 minutes each day to force the individual eye to work and make sure that they are working equally. We got back in a few weeks to discuss our options from there. Hopefully, these two things will help - but there is a big chance that Parker will be having surgery this Spring. We are definitely happy that we took him in when we did so that we can start correcting this vision problem while he is still young.
I was very worried about how Parker would do with glasses, but it turns out I didn't need to worry at all! Parker does great with them! The doctor told us that he wants Parker to wear them all the time, but with most 2 year olds, the goal is 2-3 hours because they won't keep them on. Not Parker. The first day, he got his glasses, he wore them all day long. He only got frustrated with them once. Ever since, he has done perfect!
Now, we just get to try this and hope that everything works out like it should! Parker definitely looks a lot more grownup with his new look!!!

He really sports glasses well!
Those glasses really make him look grown up. I'm glad you caught this problem early.
he looks so grown up!!
What a handsome fellow! My nephew had to do the same thing. He did have surgery too and that turned out great. One time he broke his glasses when he was 3 and kept asking for them back because he couldn't see. I guess they really get used to them and even miss them when they're gone. Parker looks so cute!
He looks so cute. I hope the glasses and patches help and you can avoid surgery.
He is such a handsome boy. The glasse really suit him. I am happy that he likes wearing them. When I first got my glasses, I was so excited to see that trees have leaves. I had only seen big blobs of green.
He looks so cute!
He looks so cute in them! Good luck with all of that!
He does look good in those glasses. I hope all turns out well.
That is awesome he will keep the glasses on. He probably feels a lot better with them. He does look older and so cute. Lets get together this week. I was thinking Wednesday sometime.
He looks so good in glasses all grown up.. It is good you found it early to fix it when he is young..
He is getting so big and he's a very hansdom guy! I like the glasses look. How does he do with the patches when it comes time for that? Good luck with everything!
He looks so cute. I got glasses when I was 3 and had to wear a patch (which I HATED) but my eyes slowly got better and now I don't wear contacts or anything.
He is so handsome!! I love it! Oh, PS, didn't know you were pregnant until about a week ago! Congrats!!
So adorable!!!!!!!!!!
